Can anyone point me in the right direction to determine what a materials list would be for trusses on a 20x20 shed/storarge/work area?

I have no clue where to start.

Thanks.

Adell40,

No offense, but if you have "no clue" how to determine the materials need to build a truss, how do you expect to BUILD ONE????

Trusses are an engineered item. It may be different where you're at, but in CA, not even the builder who's been building houses since there were HOUSES is allowed to build his own trusses anymore. He goes to a truss mfgr. and ORDERS them! The fact that you are looking at a storage shed wouldn't matter. It's over 120 square feet -- it would have to have a bldg. permit, and that means engineered trusses.

Look into buying engineered trusses. Too easy (and therefore, TOO CHEAP!), and they are delivered (via a crane) to the top of your existing walls.

Wow, didn't realize they had to be engineered. No problem buti sthere a way to find out the cost for them?

Thanks again,

Adell

Look in the phone book and call a truss builder. For a price. Home depot and lowes have books how to. If you live out back and no code on them. You can make them yourself

Trusses are not that hard to build if you have the plans and follow them exactly. Since you are in Colorado, i would assume snow load will play into this. You might just be better off following leftys advice and buy them. Truss pricing here makes it well worth paying to have someone else make them.

All,

Thanks alot for your assistance, I will look at Home Depot and the phone book for a truss builder, I really need to get an estimate to budget our project for next year.

Thanks again,

Adell

The phone book will work -- not sure what HD will be able to do for you. But you might call or talk to local lumberyards. Both major yards here in Redding have truss shops.

I was able to contact the same truss shop that Home Depot orders their trusses through, it was quick and painless. They also told me the price they quoted for me would probably be higher than what Home Depot can offer so I contacted Home Depot and now waiting on a quote. The truss shop new about the wind and snowload - thank God, I had no clue.

Just wanted to let you know I appreciate all the help.

Take care,

Adell
