View Full Version : vent for vaulted ceiling
Can I cut a "shingle-over" ridge vent in half lengthwise and use each half for the upper roof vent of a vaulted ceiling provided I use adequate flashing from the wall over the vent? This will give me twice the length for the money. If not recommended, can you recommend a product for this application.

There are some continuous vent products made espically for a headwall application...check out airvent.com look for ridge vents then specialty vents, you'll see one there.

You also can do it in the framing. Leave the plywood short of the top about an inch. Use a 2x4 or 6 or 8 (depending on how much snow is expected, attached to the wall, but shimmed out an inch with cedar shims to match the roof deck. Add more shims along the 2x. Have custom flashing bent to match the 2x material's shim tops and extend down just shy of the roof deck. You are vented.
