Bought a house, plan on moving the hot water heater to a different part of the room. It is presently a 3" pipe going into 3.25". Straight through the ceiling and out the roof. What are usually the clearances to combustables required for this set up? Or is there a better way for me to go?

I take it that the vent going on up and out the roof is a classB gas vent. You need 1" from all combustable around it. Check code for where you are. That 3 " sheet metal pipe.should be 18" away from combustable.

I'm not sure what class B means but what I have is a fairly heavy wall galvanized pipe that comes down far enough that only a couple of inches of the 3" is exposed. Is it suppose to be like this or is this something they've while replacing the previous tank? Presently I have no clearance around the 3.25" pipe. And I don't know how far the 3" goes up inside of it.
