I just had wind turbines installed - first time I have ever had them on a house. We just had our first good rain after they were installed and I discovered that they are leaking. The rain is blowing through the louvers in the turbine and leaking into my attic through the roof cutout. I guess my question is - What's supposed to keep the rain from entering the turbine through the turbine louvers ? This can't be normal...
Thanx.

Make sure they are spinning....
The spinning of the turbine is what keeps the rain out. There will always be a "mist" in a heavy rain...just the nature of the design.

Thats why they are outlawed here now. That and that they dont work when you need them in the summer and they blow off. A power vent fan on a tstat is the best. That's like code is just about to outlaw the ridge vents here. Rain will blow in bad some times. Also the dust and pollen fill's and block 's the ones that have the filter in them.
ED ;)
I agree with Ed about how unreliable turbines are.
If you look at the specifications for turbines as to the number of square inches they offer for ventilation, they are only rated for the size of opening that you have to cut in your roof.
In other words, the manufacturer doesn't rate their ventilation capability any higher than just a static opening of the same size.
So, I guess all you can do is complain to the installer and hope that they will do something about them.
