How do we get the rusted mailbox out of the brick enclosure? It is to the point of no return and the hinges on the lid are totally rusted out. I am not even sure where I will find a new mailbox because the ones at the home improvement store are different sizes. Can someone experienced in Brick work replace this or does the whole thing have to come down?

M&Mbaker, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Just a thought. Look inside the mailbox to see if thare are any screws or nails holding the mailbox to a support. Then see how much mortar is surrounding the front of the box. You may be able to chisel the mortar out and get an idea how it is mounted. If you can get it out (and I am not saying this will be easy) then you could chip away enough brick to get the newer boxes in. Since you won't be able to get anything inside to secure the new box, you may have to epoxy it to the support. Then surround the end back in with mortar. Good luck and post back.

Thanks for the information! That sounds like it might work. I checked to see if it was held in place by nails or fasteners and it doesn't look like it. I will let you know how I do. Thanks again. :)
