Adding heat to basement room, currently have 1 zone for whole house. Gas fired boiler, 1 thermostat on main floor. Purchased taco 1" sweat valve for exisitng feed pipe to main floor and 3/4" sweat valve for new zone in basement. I will install a 40VA xsformer and a taco zvc-403 zone controller. My question is what considerations should I take when installing zone valves ie: location? I will have to move expansion tank. Is distance/height from boiler a consideration? On the return side from the new zone where I cut into the existing return should I do this at a particular location? and do I need to install a back flow somwhere to prevent heat from flowing back to other zone when it's not wanted or does it not matter because the circulator is installed on the return side just before the boiler? Anything else I'm overlooking? Thanks.
