We purchased a new house. The bathtub took several hours to empty, then the toilet backed up then the shower backed up. Now things seem to be working, but I noticed water in the shower drain. Is this normal or do I have a problem with the plumbing system that needs to be addressed.

Do you mean that you can see water DOWN in the drain or that there is water standing IN the shower at the drain? Water down in the shower is probably in the trap and should be there. In the shower...nope. By new, is it BRAND new or new to you? Original thought was, with a new house, sometimes the plumber forgets to remove the cap off of the vent line on the roof. This will cause a vacuum to be pulled when a fixture is drained and pull the water out of the traps. If every thing else is working now sounds ok.If water is standing in the shower you will have to get a plumbers snake and run it down the drain. Good luck and post back.

It is a brand new, just built house. The water is down in the drain so I guess it's ok. I will have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for your quick response.
