OK, everything is finished and ready to drywall....PROBLEM IS..I cant get half inch down there unless I take out the stairs and lower the sheetrock down...can I use quarter inch since it gives a little and I can make the turn...will 1/4 inch hold up down there...

3/8" for the walls ok but if you drywall the ceiling Id use 5/8 for it or go drop ceiling.

Your only choice would be to score the back side of the paper and snap the drywall,it should fold in half without breaking the front side of the paper. This will let you get the sheets downstairs a bit easier.probably take 2 people to install them as they will be weaker at the joint.

ps...do you know anything about recessed troffers...how shallow(deep)can you get them
