I have a home that was built in 1977. My plan is to replace the wallpaper in
my daughter's bathroom with paint. After taking the wallpaper off I noticed
that there was no green board lining the shower/tub. Thinking I could
replace the tub/shower and sheetrock I went to Home Dept and Lowe's, but
both did not have the size tub/shower that I need (58x72x30).
My next thought was to paint a couple of coats of Kills over the existing
sheetrock to protect it, but I've already noticed a few places where the
sheetrock is crumbling.
Any suggestions?

You need to cut out the crumbling sheetrock sections and replace it with greenboard. Tape, mud and sand it, seal it all (the Kilz is a good idea), and paint it with a semi-gloss finish coat or two.
Good luck!

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I was told by a contractor that the sheetrock probably continued behind the shower/tub so I didn't even consider that. I just started tearing it down, but noticed a metal corner. I only want to tear down the sheetrock at the top of the shower. Is it possible to cut the metal corner and replace what was cut out or do I need to take out the whole metal beed? If so, do I just cover it with paper to tape and float or something else?
thanks again,
Carlton.
