The mason just left from repairing my front porch stoop. It was built (same guy) 7 years ago. It is about 4 by 12 feet of ~2 inch bluestone. Built on top of a thick concrete slab that I know is rock solid. Some of the blocks (for example 4'by1', 2'by2', etc) were slipping out of place. Some of the mortar failed between the stones. So he came today and removed all the bluestone and reset them and mortared between the joints.
Finally - my question: Should I put some sort of sealant on the mortar joints (or maybe on the whole thing) to protect it from the weather and hopefuuly prolong its life? The winters can be a little wet and niipy here in Connecticut.
