I have a 20 year old house. In one of the bathroom shower/baths, the tub spout does not divert the water to the shower head when the knob on the spout is raised. I assume I need to replace the spout. When I try to unscrew the spout, I meet a lot of resistance. Is there a proper way of removing the spout without damaging the piping or pipe threads? :)

Look under the spout near the tub. If there is a slot there, you will have to remove a set screw that holds the spout to the supply pipe. If no slot, grab the spout with a wrench as close to the tub as possible and turn counter clockwise. (cut loose any caulk or silicone around the spout at the tub). Good luck
