control wiring for garage door opener???

I am pre-wiring my garage (under construction) for the push button control of garage door opener and also to connect the infra-red safety switches to the same opener.

what type of wiring is used? 2-conductor? 4-conductor? gauge?

It's generally low voltage and just a contact closure which means 2 wire. Pretty much like a doorbell. Any 18/2 or 18/3 cable will work provided your button won't be 100s of feet from the opener itself.
