Hello,
I've recently moved into a new place that has a gas furnace. The furnace was turned off for the summer, but it's now time to start it up again. The problem is, I have no clue how to do so. The gas valve is a Honeywell, and is relatively old. To ignite the pilot light I have to push down on the knob, and turn it to Pilot, however as soon as I let go of the knob, the light goes out, and I'm unable to turn the knob to On with the pilot still lit.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how to light this furnace?

First off here Id get a new Thermocouple there and make sure the pilot light is clean and a good blue flame on it so the T/C is red. then go from there. The T/C is that small copper like line from the gas valve to the pilot light.
