Flooring Tile - Shower drain

I've started to build a shower stall in our basement.(1st time)
There is a subfloor over concrete,I am going to hook up drain to existing line.
I'm using a metal pan for the base, then mortar & tile.
Since I don't have access to hookup the drain, I was looking at the "slip on" type.
Does the drain go flush with the tile? How do I attached the drain to the metal pan and what height do the drain stand off the pan? Anyone direct me to a detail of this, or suggest another type drain.

From your post, I cannot tell what of plumbing, if any is there right now, and that makes a big difference. Also, being a slab, I would also frame out the shower and use a mud bed for the preslope and then either add a cpe membrane with a clamping drain or use a Kerdi drain and waterproofing system over the preslope and on the walls or kerdi the pan and use cement board on the walls to build the shower. If you don't have a preslope under the liner, water is not directed to weep holes in the shower drain system and allows for water to remain in the pan causing all sorts of stuff like mildew growth, stagnant water smell, minerals to leach up and discolor your grout, etc, etc.
