I am installing my first hardwood floor in our new home. I've ripped up the carpet and pulled out all of the particle board that was under it. Now I'm left with 1/2" plywood sheathing. The manufacturers instructions recommend min of 5/8 CDX or OSB as a base. Should I add a sheet of 1/4", 3/8 or 1/2" CDX to make this up? Or do I need a fresh layer of 5/8" Will any of the three do? I'm not too concerned with cost, mainly with getting it done correctly.

Thanks!

I would put a layer of ½", if were my home.

OSB or CDX plywood will do. The plywood being the better choice.
