high pitched noises from kitchen faucet when hot and/or cold water is on, but no vibrations are present. Is it air in the pipes? Please help.

How old is the faucet?
Is it single handle or dual?
If the faucet is a couple years old and dual handle it may be the washers. Go to your favorite plumbing or hardware store and pick up new ones, probably .10-.20 each. Cheaper than buying a box of assorted that you won't use most of anyway.
If its a single handle faucet its probably the cartridge. Its probably more cost effective to replace the whole cartridge rather than trying to rebuild it. Most are less than $10.
Its not likely that air is the cause since the kitchen is the only one affected. It would also have run out by now UNLESS you just had work done on your plumbing. Air sounds like hammering and not whistling and would happen in ALL the faucets.

I agree with Majikdragon. 99 times out of 100, it is a faucet washer that needs replaced.

I have the same high pitched noises, but coming from my bathroom tub.... would that be the same problem?

Test the pressure on the house, if 80psi or higher, pressure reducing valve will be needed.
High pressure can cause high pitched sounds.
