I have a combination furnance/air conditioning hvac that is approximately
14 years old. I was curious to know what is the expected useful life span of
this unit is ?
A salesman at Sears told me hvac units should be replaced every 10 years.
He stated that newer units are more energy efficent. My unit is working fine.
Would like to hear people's opinon on this.

you probably have a few years left, definately toward end of life span
properly maintained and cleaned, 20 years i would think.
many other factors involved though

With hvac for sure. 14 years is near the end. I sure wouldn't sink to much money into it.
But if it's operating good now I wouldn't just change it out unless it's costing you an arm and a leg to operate.

Yeah....this thing is still kickin strong. Pumps out real cold air in the summer and
lots of heat in the winter. Just recently replaced the electronic ignitor.
Also just cleaned out and vacuum the burners. Unit is Lennox.
What usually goes out on this units? Is it the burners on the furnance and
the compressor on the air condition side ?
