It's a Sears Craftsman 1/2 HP, less than two years old.

The door will not close, despite any adjustments I've tried. It travels a few inches (usually, sometimes a bit more), then reverses.

I've unlatched the door from the opener and closed and opened it manually - it seems to go smoothly, no binding, no sticking.

When the door reverses, the GDO lights flash ten times - according to the manual, this seems to indicate that the sensors are misaligned / obstructed.

However, the sending light glows steady orange, and the receiving light glows steady green. This, again according to the manual, indicates that they are properly aligned and unobstructed.

As for the adjustments - DOWN TRAVEL and DOWN FORCE - as I've said, I've tried multiple combinations of adjustments, and nothing helps. Even with the door off of the carriage, sometimes the carriage will go several feet before reversing, sometimes just a couple of inches. This varies even when I've made no changes in adjustment between attempts.

Any advice on how to proceed?

Thanks!

Jon

I've got the exact same problem (see my post today) but mine just used to behave like this during hot weather, now it acting up in hot and cold. Seems like I have a window 40 deg to 80 deg when it works fine.

As I mentioned, unplugging the unit will reset it and you get a grace period there until it happens again, generally within hours.

Get no flashes like you indicated, no obstructions and photo eye glows green which shows alignment.

If I don't get an answer, I guess I'll have to break down and buy a whole new one, and I'll guarantee you it won't be a Craftsman.

It all sounds like a circuit bosad problem, but I've heard of overheating problems, but never too cold. Electricity likes cold weather.

I'll keep an eye on your post to see if you get a response. I'll bet professional garage door guys see this a lot.
