I installed a new shallow well pump with an onboard pressure switch ( 30-50lbs) after my old one burned up. I also installed a new pressure tank, and check valve in the well line.
I have the pressure tank precharged at 28lbs without water in it.
Now heres the problem....When the well pump turns on, the pressure switch rapid fires the pump for 2 seconds, then the pump runs. After the pressure tank is full of water, the pressure switch rapid fires the pump on and off 3-4 times before the pump shuts down.
The pressure switch is controlled by a small hose from the pump body to the base of the switch. I checked it for blockage, but it's fine!
It sounds to me like a pressure problem in the tank, but Im stumped.

This will happen when the pump will discharge more water than the piping can handle. This can be caused by several things:
1. The discharge piping is too small (rule of thumb is use piping at least the same size as the discharge port).
2. Too many elbows or other fittings close to the pump.
3. Pressure tank too close to the pump.
4. Pressure tank too small for the pump.
I've experience this problem with some 1 hp pumps, but mostly with 1.5 and 2 hp units.
Usually, if I have this problem after installation, I will remove the pressure switch line from the pump head and tie it in somewhere else in the discharge line, usually close to the pressure tank. This will alleviate the "pressure wave" inside the pump head that makes the switch chatter.

I did what you said and moved the pressure switch off the pump. I installed it in a tee down by the pressure tank.
Everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the help! :)
