loft lighting

hello people this is my first post on this forum and i would like to say hi to all of you out there,can somone please help i would like to put a light in my loft to enable me to carry out some work prior to a loft conversion,i have bought a jcn box,a surface mount switch and a angled batern lamp holder do i just put the jcn box into the lighting ring take a cable from this through the switch to the lamp holder or is there somthing else i should know?
