Installed 2 (12V 50 W) halogen pendant lights. Previous fixtures were reg 60 watt bulbs and operated off of a dimmer switch. When ionstalling new fixtures connected black wire to black wire and white to white. New fixture directions stated that green grounding wire should attach to grounding screw. Previous fixtures had green wire attached to plain junction box wire-did the same here. When I switched the lights on one light illuminated-dimly and then faded out in a matter of seconds. I purchased new bulbs and rechecked the connections -still no light. Could the problem result from the switch? I am obviously a complete novice so any help would be much appreciated.

You did put in a transformer, right?

Until you get it sorted out and working right, replace the dimmer switch with a regular switch.

The dimmer switch may be the problem. It was probably not compatilbe with the new fixtures.

Transformer??? ( I told you I was a novice) There was some sort of box that was part of the fixture. The wires were connected to this box. I'll try replacing the switch
