Not too long ago, I got maple laminate flooring installed throughout my townhouse (http://www.mairmg.com/wilsonart/homeowner/gallery/classic/small_10.jpg). In natural sunlight, the floor looks a little pinker than I would have liked. (At night, with electric lights shining overhead, it's a little better.)

I'm wondering if there's a light neutral color I can paint the walls that will help warm up the floor. Ideally, the color would be warm, because my furnishings and artwork are warm, and I don't like cold taupe/tan colors. And it would be lighter than the floor, but enough to nicely contrast with white trim. The color I envision would be a very pale gold or ivory, but not lemon-y and no hint of peach, pink, or green.

In the linked picture below, you can see the floor. The existing couch with the ripped up slipcover is getting a new slipcover (on order) in a warm sage/olive, which picks up some colors in the rug.

So my questions are: will a warm neutral color warm up the floors, and do you know of any good ones? I just bought a sample of BM Goldtone, which came out perfect in terms of light/dark, but it's a tad too lemon-y in some levels of light.

Other colors I've been considering but haven't bought samples of yet are: BM Hepplewhite Ivory, Behr Cracked Wheat, Behr Leightweight Beige.

Thanks for your help!

i can't tell from the pictures that the floor is pinkish. i also don't have access to paint decks to be able to see the colors you're considering, so this may be difficult for me! on the other hand, Twelvepole has paint decks, i think, so if she see's this, maybe she can help better......????!!!!)

that said, i'd avoid anything in the gold family, because it will make your floor seem even more pinkish by comparison. plus it'll clash & look horrid.

instead of fighting it, i think i'd use it to your advantage. there seems to be some burgundy shades in the area rug, so that actually will play nicely off the pinkish floors. i think i'd go with a wall color either lighter or darker than your sage/olive slipcovers. green walls with wood flooring always looks fabulous.

i don't believe you'll find a light, neutral shade that will magically suck the pinkish color out of your floors, leaving you with nothing but goldtones. if they're pink at all, it can't be much. i wouldn't put so much emphasis on it. i'd focus more on the greens & burgundys and neutrals in the rug.

Thanks Annette! I'll steer clear of golds.

I think a light olive/sage green would look terrific for the living room, but the tricky thing is that I'm picking a color for several small rooms that are connected to one another in a sort of winding way. In the other rooms, I don't have the same color scheme with the greens and burgundies. The next room over (TV room) has dark brown sofas with a leopard skin pillow for accent and bold vintage posters in reds, oranges, and golds. The room after that is the kitchen, and has no color scheme yet.

Maybe I should go for a subtly warm offwhite for the walls that connect rooms together and have an accent wall in the nook of each room that picks up on whatever color scheme is in that room?

ABSOLUTELY!!! that is a great way to maintain flow between all the different rooms, yet allow each room to have it's own accent color.

since the kitchen still needs doing, try to incorporate all the colors in there, to achieve the most coordination for your whole house.
