I have a strip light (4 ft) in my loft which only lights up about 6 inches at both ends. I have replaced the strip with one I know that works but still have the same result. I have opened the system to find a starter but its a startless Unit (LPF starterless ballast SSQL/440) which connects to a Capacitor & a Terminal block 1 fuse amp.
Any ideas

When you say "strip light", do you mean a fluorescent tube? And when you say you replaced the "strip", do you mean you replaced the fluorescent tube?
Buy a new fixture.

Yes, when I say 'strip light' I mean fluorescent tube
You think I need to replace the whole unit

Unless you have a specialty fixture, it's often cheaper to replace the fixture than replace the ballast. Price it out both ways.
