Hello all, I'm new to the forum. I need advice on a metal roof. It's an older roof on my cottage, which is generally holding up well. The problem is ice damming/build up. Last winter, the ice damming was extreme and occurred both on the 2nd level roof and the 1st level roofs, actually crushing an area of roof on the 1st level and knocking off a section of the gutters. I had installed, in a makeshift fashion, some heating cables on both levels. The previous winter, I had some nasty leaking into a family room on the 2nd level. The heating cable approach worked to stop the leaking, but obviously wasn't enough to stop the other damage describe above. The question is, how do we properly affix standard heating cables to the metal roof so I can do a more permanent and hopefully more effective job clearing the ice build up. Of course the standard clips, designed for regular shingles, don't work. Any ideas on this one would be greatly appreciated as the work needs to get done in November.
Thanks Paul
