We moved into our house and we started having problems with the furnace not shutting off. We had a furnace guy come in and he checked it out, cleaned it, etc. but we were still having the problem. We then replaced the thermostat and put in a programmable one. Sometimes it would work properly and other times the furnace would stay on and we would have to flip the breaker to turn it off. The thermostat could be set to off and it would still run. The problem is getting worse. Our A/C unit worked fine on the thermostat. I am hoping someone will have an idea of what the problem might be. Thanks.

Hello Sonny. Welcome to the Heating Furnaces forum topic and the Do It Yourself Web Site.
Ever since the thermostat was replaced, you said the furnace does not shut off. Exactly which operation does not shut off? The fan continues to ran only or both the burners and the fan continue to run???
Important to know exactly which operation continues to run. Helps to more accurately determine how the t-stat may be incorrectly wired and or the exact condition or problem with the furnace. Two seperate issues. May not be the t-stat causing the problem. May be strictly related to the furnace. Need to know exactly.
Retail heating parts dealers, heating agents and part supplers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and are listed in the phone book.
Check back on your question several more times. Heating professionals and other members posting replies in this forum topic may offer you additional advice, ideas and or repair methods.

Try next time its on and has ran for a while. Take and pull R off the tstat and see if it stops If not tstat is ok. Go to the furnace and pull R off the transformer. If its stops then short in the tstat wire .If not then board in the furnace next.
