We have a 15 y.o. Sears natural gas heater that is tied in with a central A/C system. In the sping we turned of the pilot lights. Now we can't get them back on. There are 5/6 burners. We just bought the house this year and never had to light them. Can anyone give us a hint on what to do? We move the switch to the pilot mark and depress and try to light the middle burner with a match. I don't hear gas, either. We may be stupid but need advice before calling a technician.

if there is no gas at the outlet of the pilot tubing at the thermocouple it could be a restriction or bad valve....

Hello Monliz. Welcome to the Heating Furnaces forum topic and the Do It Yourself Web Site.

Look for the pilot assembly. You need to light the pilot at the pilot assembly not the burner(s). Follow the aluminum tube out of the gas control valve where you depress the reset button, to the pilot assembly.

That is the location (place) where the pilot flame needs to be lit. Depress the button, lit the pilot flame. If no flame is able to be lit, check the shut off valve that is on the iron (galvanized or black iron) gas supply pipe. The shut off valve may be turned off.

Shut off valve (Isolation Valve) must be turned on, to supply gas to the control valve. If it is off and turned on, gas will take a few moments to arrive at the pilot assembly once the reset button is pushed.

CAUTIONARY NOTE:
Be sure the thermostat is turned all the way down (lowest temp) and the on/off switch, if there is one on the thermostat, is turned OFF! Before attempting to light the pilot flame.
