we bought three x 3 foot fluorescent tubes from the store, all with a wired mount and plug to plug them into the wall. there are no switches on the mounts, you just plug them in and they go.

we want to wire them together so that the three of them can be controlled from a single power point, and we also want to wire in a switch so that we can turn all three of them on and off without having to crawl under the bench and plug them in.

if we want to link the three together, should we wire them in serial or parallel?

also, if installing a switch, where should we wire it in in the sequence? live? earth? neutral?

Should be wired in parallel...after the switch!

Switches should be installed on the hot side. (black wires for 120V house wiring.

Plug them all in as is and rewie the receptacle to be switched. You should not be rewiring the light. If you do rewire then the connection need to be in proper junction boxes with covers. No cutting and taping of wires allowed.

I agree with joed, make the receptacles switched. Those plug-in fixtures are not meant to be hardwired
