There are a lot of things to consider in choosing a floorcovering.Being a Tileguy I love to see people install Ceramic tile, however, it is not the best choice for everyone. Its the most cost effective sertainly if properly installed with the industry using a figure of 3-1 more cost effective than any other type of flooring.
Things to consider
Ceramic Tile is a hard floor. It requires les maintenance than any other floor saving some labor around the house.
If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, that floor is going to be hard on folks with bad knees, ankles, feet etc without some typ of matting.
My mother wanted ceramic in her kitchen for ease of care, however, she liked to cook and bake and spent alot of time in the kitchen.I talker her out of it and into a resiliant florcovering for her comfort.
If you use the kitchen for quick meals mostly and are healthy with no problems like those listed then perhaps ceramic tile is an option for you.

Knowing wether your structure is adequate for the installation of tile is the first step.A floor needs to be Solid and have little Deflection when under a load.To determine the deflection rating ,I would need to know the following:
Floor Joist Dimensions(2x6,2x8,2x10 etc),Floor joist spacing(16" On center 24" on center etc). And the Longest unsupported span of the joists in the area to be tiled................
