Hi folks - my first post! I'm installing 12x12 marble tiles on our countertop and backsplash. First times I've done marble tiling, however, I've done ceramic a number of times. I bought an inexpensive wet saw and when I used it for the first time today it left an uneven edge at the cut - chipped out little pieces. Is this the nature of the beast or are there any tricks that might give me a better edge? The tiles are Phillippine Marble. I didn't force the cut; tried to just feed the tile gently as the cutting proceeded.
Thanks,
Phil in Ohio

You may fair better to rent a good wet saw. A lot of inexpensive tile saws will vibrate alot and cause chipping, especially if its a table top model with the blade coming up from the bottom. You say your doing a back splash too? Then you will be quite pleased with how easy it is to do cut outs for outlets and switches with that saw as any small amout of chipping will be hidden with cover plates. At your local home center or hardware store you will find box extenders to go over your electrical boxes to make the outlets and switches come out to the surface of the tile. You cannot cover the box with a bit of tile to support the ears of the outlets and switches. That is a code violation. The plastic box extenders can be easily reduced in size as needed with a sander before installing them.
