In my country kitchen I have a ceiling fan above the kitchen and a hanging Chandelier above the kitchen table. I would like to put a fluorescent light where the ceiling fan is and move the fan to where the chandelier is. Seems like a fairly inexpensive project, but I am a complete novice when it comes to electrical work. Is this a project I should go forward with, and if so, what I am I looking at having to deal with? Thanks.

Sounds like a straight forward project. Make sure you have all power off to the fixture you are working on. Remove fixure and replace with other fixture. May need help when removing the ceiling fan to hold it up while you diconnect the wires. Some have a hook for that purpose built-in. Removing the blades also make it easier to handle. Good luck and watch this post for more ideas and info.

I am going to go for it. If I come across any problems during my adventure I will post a thread. Thanks for the advice.

Make sure that the ceiling box you are moving the fan to is of the sort rated for use with ceiling fans.
If it isn't, you need to change the box.
Disconnect only the wire connected to the fan and the chandelier. Don't go disconnecting all the wires in the box.
