I bought a house about 2 months ago, and I'm just now getting around to hooking up the gas stove.

I bought a kit from best buy that had some flexible hose, and some teflon paste.

I had no trouble attaching the hose to the stove itself, but when I tried to attach it to the gas line coming out of the floor I realized that I had a problem. The ends of the hose don't move independently of the hose, so in order to screw the end of the hose into the pipe the entire hose has to rotate. Since the other end is attached to the stove, the hose kinks up rather quickly.

It seems to me the the ends of the hose should move and allow me to screw them in w/out having to rotate the entire hose, but since they don't.... how do I install this w/out kinking up my hose?

Could get a nipple to fit the hose and a union .Put it on the pipe and hose.
You sure that one end is not free. like can you put it on the pipe first then the other end on the stove.

Yes I'm sure that neither end moves.

I looked all over Lowe's for a union that had a moveable end on it, but I couldn't find anything that would fit the pipe in my kitchen (1/2 inch iron)

Where should I look, or what should I be asking for?

What Ed meant was to buy a seperate union and a nipple. (not one already on a flex hose). !/2 inch iron unions are sold everywhere.(called mallable iron unions). It will permit you to put one half on the iron pipe and the other half on the hose you already have an by tightening the collar you will complete the joint. Good luck.
