on the piping...plumber used 1/2" in on the cold water supply.. 3/4" out on the hot water out.. having problems with even supply when multiple items are used.. should the have been 3/4 in the cold water supply also?

Every water heater I have ever plumbed had 3/4 in and 3/4 out. Don't know how it could keep up with demand if supply did not equal demand.
