I HAVE AN OLD MFI KIDS WARDROBE MADE OF CONTI BOARD & WOULD LIKE TO PAINT IT, TO GIVE IT A MODERN LOOK, WHAT SORT OF PAINT DO I NEED TO USE? & DOES IT NEED ANY SPECIAL PREPARATION.

Any finish now in place needs to be sanded - not sanded off, just scuffed up enough for a new coat to adhere. Use a good quality primer next, such as BIN or KILZ. Apply 2 coats, sanding lightly after each to remove the nubbies...
After that I would suggest and exterior (more durable) acrylic enamel - pick your color.
