We are looking into a new electric heat pump. We now have a 23 year old 1.5 ton York and have been told the unit is small for our 3 story twin home. We are looking at a York ERE 2 ton Olympian Series 15.7 seer 8.8 HSPF 24000 BTU's with variable speed ( kind of leaning toward this unit because of 15.7 seer.) The other unit is a York Stella 2000 Plus 12 seer with variable speed 13.8 seer. 7.6 HSPF. Any opinions on what is the better unit?
One last question is if we go with The Olympian 15.7 seer vertical unit it states that the company puts the unit on snow blocks. I really do not like the look of snow blocks. Can we use something lower? The other unit comes with a cement slab which would be my 1 st choice. any suggestions or advice would be great!!

First did you get 3 bids for the job??? Did they run a heatloss and AC load on the home. Might look at a Trane for a heat pump Check out the XL16i a SEER of 17.00 and a HSPF of 10.55.

They did not run any of those. One guy took room measurements and the other guy measured the duct work in our basement. Our neighbors have replaced their units and I think they looked at their units size which both are a 2 ton. WE live in a twin developement so all the homes are set up very much alike. I also got a quote on a Frigidaire 12 seer but not that many heating companies in my general area deal with Frigidarie. So I was not really leaning towards that unit. Mostly York/ Lenox/ Trane are in my area.
The guy that suggested The York 15.7 seer told me that in the past he had not a good experience with Tranes Customer Service and was not happy with the company when he needed to replace parts. He thought York was a better company to deal with. He said he has been in the business for 17 years. I do not know much about Trane. I guess everyone has a preferance.

Dont have any trouble with Trane at all. BUT BUT If a guy is selling something there that has been there for 17 years Id say go with him. He should know how to fix it and have parts for it.
