I have an Electric Heat Pump with an Aux. heat. When I turn the heat on, with auto or with the "on" switch, once it has reached the desired temp or above for a period of time, it switches off and doesn't come back on unless it is turned off for a period of time (at least one day) and then turned back on manually.

my fist inclination is the tstat. does anything run during the "off" cycle? does fan run in on position during this time?

No, the fan was not on as well. There was no sound coming from the system.

What tstat do you have on it? Like hvac4u asked can you turn the fan on at the tstat any time. Does the tstat have batteries in it???
