HI just have a question about hard water .I have a 40 gal natural gas water heater 12 years old still working .I would like to change it to electric because i had a new energy efficient furnace installed but would like to know if anyone can tell me if gas or electric will last the longest our water is fairly hard .the cost of hydro and gas in our area is very close.also if i go with electric should i have a bigger tank Thanks in advance

Go to Sears.com or any of the stores you like that sell water heaters and look at the energy guide ratings in the differences from gas to electric.

I installed a Bradford White water heater today, a Kenmore tuesday, both were gas, one was a power vent, the other just a normal gas heater. Both had energy guide average cost to operate around the $150 range.
