Ok this is really a bad mistake on my part. My unit inside froze up so I looked and the AC filter was pretty dirty, seems to happen faster and faster now. Just happens that I lost my electricty soon after I noticed and it had 21 hours to cool down.
This was all during our hurricane season here and I forgot to put another filter in. When I did put the filter in it started to freeze up again. So now I cant put one in at all. I took a flash light and looked up underneath and it looks like there is some sludge on the coils. I dont know much about AC's but it seems like this is preventing airflow and causing it to freeze. Is this an accurate prognosis?
Now how would I clean these, short of having to pay someone to come out. I really dont want to call someone to do it. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks
Brad

It's not that hard as long as you can get to it. You can brush most of it off after its dry and shop vac it. After I get the big stuff off I spray it with like 409 or simular and carefully rinse it good. While you're in there it's a good idea to pull the blower and clean it good also.
Try not to bend any of the fins on the coil and dont run your finger down them. You will get cut.

Might check at Home Depot they had what is called a clean and teh blower finfin combs that will help get the dirt out on the under side of the coil. After its clean and the blower, get all the fins there in the blower wheel. put new filter in every 30 to 90 days. When its on the big copper line should be cold and wet the little line warm.

Silentblades I think in your other post you are low on freon did you call hvac guy to check it. Not sure what unit you have there .but the blower should come out as a unit motor and all. Some after you take two screws out it will slide out . You have to find out what you have there. Also it helps if you stay in the same post here dont jump around. We can help you better.

Also I did call A/C tech 14 dollars a lb of freon. 47 bucks service charge. Not sure how many pounds of freon I need. Said finding the leak might be impossible so not sure what to do about that if there is one. Also I have a goodman ck36-1a 10 seer 3 ton unit. I just applied some of that A-coil cleaner. Coil does look cleaner. So if thats not the problem ill try the freon. My bud has some R22?? And he will service my system with it if it needs it. If thats not the problem ill call the A/C tech. Just trying to save money here. :wall:
