Help!! I have two 7 week old newborns and my heat doesn't work!

I had a contractor look at my system (GE weathertron hp, GE airhandler).
I only wanted to replace the hp. The contractor installed a Colemen hp Model BRHS0241B2 and he cannot connect it to the existing GE airhandler model BWH730A100A0.

It seems the 8 color wires match from the thermostat to the airhandler but the airhandler output wire colors do not match the Coleman hp.

He said he tried to get the specs for the air handler but was unable to. His only solution is to replace the airhandler. There are at least 3 other townhouses that replaced only the hp so I know it can be done.

Can anyone provide specs for either the GE hp or GE airhandler? Or offer any other advice or solutions? I need heat!

Thanks in advance
Lisa

I think I would call the company and talk to the owner or service manager. Explain to them what is going on. If you already had a heat pump in there and all the did was replace the outdoor unit they should have no problem wiring it up. What you need now is a service tech not the installer. The 1st thing I was taught in HVAC school was to never rely on wire colors. The tech needs to be able to follow the schematic and apparantly he can't. Alot of times installers are not to good at being creative with wiring units from differant manufactures unless he's just trying to be a salesman.

Im like Matt a good tech should be able to wire the two up so they run.

yes, the ahu should definately be changed, it is a GE? 20 plus yrs old, definately!

as for operation, any moderately skilled tech can make it work electrically, they are compatible. older units like that had indoor coils sized for the older outdoor units. some even had the transformer outside. it can be made to work, for sure, but it is efficiency and capacity that will suffer

I don't think this guy is very good. Anyway, the coleman hp cost $1500 and the ah an additional $700, total of $2200. Is that a good price for the northeast?
