I just moved into a home that was built in 1969. There is paneling in everyroom and I want to take it down and paint the walls. Behind the panels is older drywall that they applied glue to it to hold up the wood paneling. What kind of treatment can I do to the walls so that I can paint them without having to sand and make a hugh mess of my home? I don't mind textured walls as long as it is subtle. Can anyone help me with this???

Thanks!

I had the same problem in my kitchen. I tore down some paneling and the yellow glue looked horid. I ended up replacing some sections of drywall, I then removed the thin layer of paper on the old drywall that the glue was on, after the paper was removed I skim coated the drywall so I would have a smooth surface to prime and paint.
If you don't mind the texture of the glue I would suggest getting a good latex primer before the final paint goes up. I hope to find an easy way to deal with this as I have more paneling in the living room that will be torn down. Good luck and let me know what you did.
