I am about to increase my R factor in the attic of a 25 year old home.
When I first bought the house, I had several roof leaks.. and as a temporary fix till they repaired the roof, I rolled out a bunch of carpet over the existing insulation.
The company who will blow in my new insulation said I should take this carpet up, before he blows in the new insulation on top.
It seems to me that the carpet will simply add more or a barrier to keep the heat from the attic out of my house.
Before I make the effort to take this carpet out (not a major job -- just a hassle), can anyone confirm that this carpet should be removed prior to blowing in additional insulation???
Appreciate

The carpet should be removed. It provides no appreciable insulation value and can trap moisture. And its weight can compress the insulation beneath it, thus reducing its R value. There are only certain materials/substances that insulator companies can install their product over, and carpet is not one of them.
