A while ago, my blower motor went out...at least that's what the repair man said, so he replaced it. It's been about to months now. Here is what has started happening in chronological order:

1. Blower motor running, no air coming out of the vents
2. Air comes out, but not with much force and stops intermittently.
3 . Last, tonight, I couldn't get the blower runing but I could here it trying to start up. I manually spun the squirl cage a few time to get it going and then it took off

What is going on? did the repair man/ wifes uncle rip me off with his $250.00 motor that I found in a catalog at work for $90.00? Or is something lese happening?

thanks,

The information you provided implies that you MIGHT have a defective motor start capacitor. That's a cheap fix if you do it yourself. Typically the symtoms are as you describe, the motor won't start easily by itself, but may run OK if you help it along. You may also find that the motor runs abnormally hot. Look for a small silver can that may be attached directly to the motor itself, or at least very close to where the motor is mounted. It will usually say something like 10 mfd AC on it. There will be wires coming out of the end of it as well that connect to the motor leads. I hope this helps. Doing something yourself MAY be very cost effective providing you have the proper tools and/or equipement and don't make too many expensive mistakes. Knowing just what you can do yourself and what should be farmed out to the experts is the trick that some people have to learn the hard/expensive way.

I totally agree that it sounds like a start capacitor. Pretty sad her uncle charged more than I would a stranger.
