I just replaced the igniter on my Kenmore gas oven. It works now, but it stays on for at least a minute. I turned off the oven. I don't want to have to buy another igniter. How long should it stay lit?

Hello Vaughn and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances topic.
Oven ignitors remain on the entire time the burner is on. Normal operation. Temperature control (Thermostat) turns on power to hot surface glow ignitor. When oven temp reached, temp control turns off hot surface ignitor.
That is how ALL ovens work. Ignitor must remain on to keep burner on. Also designed intentially this way. Glow ignitor also acts as part of the built in safety device. Not much of a safety device granted but does insure burner flames do not go out and oven compartment fills with unburned gas.
