I put in a new return air grille and moved location from wall/floor to ceiling. Old grille was way under sized. My thermostat is a digital and is directly under the ceiling grille about 40". This is located upstairs at the top of stair well. The rooms are 4-6 degree cooler than hallway so the unit hardly shuts off cause the warm air is coming up from below. What should I do?
Move thermostat to a room and not hallway?
change from 1 return to a smller return in everyroom?

move the tstat and add a return over it would be the best bet. i see that a lot with open foyer layouts.

Id move the tstat first. If you can get a return from every room and enough air for the size unit you have do it. it will work a lot better.
