Hi to everyone!
My husband's mid-1970's 9" Sears Craftsman table saw, model 113242730, stopped working. It needs a "starting relay" (Sears part number=64410) that goes into the box, along with the capacitor and the switch itself. It goes from the switch, starting relay, capacitor, then to the motor.
Sears has told him that they do not carry parts for anything over 5 years old, which we think is totally idiotic. This means that they have parts for the junk that they now sell only.
He would bypass it if he knew what parts to get to put into a regular electrical box, but it seems that our local electric supply house doesn't know anything about that type of work. They're just counter-help.
If anyone out there can help, it would be greatly appreciated! Hate to get rid of the saw itself, just because of a little "starting relay", but can't find anything on the 'net pertaining to starting relay, but can find switches and capacitors.
Help, help, help, help!

Woodhead,
An original motor starting relay can normally be replaced by a universal solid state type.
I purchase mine from an HVAC supplier, but you may be able to get one from a motor rewind shop.
It shouldn't be too expensive but you will need some electric motor knowledge to install it.
You will have to be able to identify the common, start and run wires, as well as knowing how to wire in the capacitor.
The motor shop may be able to help you out though.

Try another Sears store, or go online. I recently went online and bought a new switch for my 1974 era Sears router...............and right now these old bones know that 1974 is well past the five year mark. :D
