I recently purchased a duplex and the color scheme I want means I would have to paint the doors black. There was a warning on the aluminum doors we bought not to paint them a dark color or they will warp.

Has anyone ever had this happen? Or is this one of those things no one pays attention to?

Only one door will get direct sunlight, and it is a french door, the other exterior doors are under a porch..I do not know if this makes a difference or not.

If the manufacturer said not to paint them a dark color, then don't. Dark colors absorb heat. Light colors tend to reflect heat. Expansion of the aluminum due to extreme heat will cause doors to warp.
