I have a home that was built in the '20s and we moved in about a month ago. Our stove / oven is a Wedgewood that I think was built in the '50s. I was wondering if there is a pilot light for the oven. The 4 range burners are all lit by a match; however I'm not sure about the oven.

I think the pilot light went out, because now when I open the oven door it smells like gas. If there is a pilot, does anyone know how to light it?

Thanks for the assistance in advance.

Hello Brian. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Some of the 50's era models from that time period did have pilots while others may not. To determine such, look in the back left side of the burner. There will be a pilot assembly and not just a single aluminum tube.

If there is an assembly, likely to be one since a gas odor is present, pilot can be lit. Once lit, there is also likely to be a red push button reset on a control somewhere in the oven, a storeage compartment next to the oven or under the burner top lid cover.

Not all models will have a red reset push button. Most did but some which did not will be known after the pilot flame is lit. The oven temp control will be set to a temp but oven will not light up.

When than needs to be done is to turn off oven temp control. Red reset button will than need to be located, pressed in, held in for a moment and gently released.

If oven lights without any need to push in any reset button, there isn't any reset button. Safety device will be heated by a larger pilot flame which lights off the smaller pilot flame when oven temp selection dial is turned on to a temp setting.

Some also have optional selections and setting in the clock or on the front panel. All of which have to be set to the manual mode or off, etc. Models varied widely back than between manufacturers and models, etc. Look closely for optional selections and or settings and set accordingly.

I have a wedgewood gas oven and want to reset the pilot.

Currently we are able to light the stove manually,
seeking a similar option or simply want to reset the pilot.

Anyone out there who can shed light on this situation?

My grandmother left me her four burner, center griddle, oven/broiler Wedgewood stove. I love this stove, it is in pristine condition, broiler, oven, griddle all four burners work as does the clock and light. My problem is, I never watched my grandmother use the timer and have no idea how to use it. It has two white knobs, lower right and left, and this, for lack of a better word, white arrow thingy. Any information on how to use the timer? I am also interested in how to maintain the griddle. I know she wiped this stove down after each use with hot water. Other than that I am clueless. Please excuse me if I posted this incorrectly. I am new to this forum.
Thanks!
