I would like to install a programable digital thermostat for a through the wall cool/heat unit. This is a 220v system. I figure I would need a 24v step down transformer and some sort of relay. I have heard there are new units that actually have programable capabilities built in, but have not been able to locate one. At least not one that meets California energy codes for the heating element. I have the opportunity to provide a programable system for a condo complex of 300+ units each with two wall A/C's. Since many tenants are not interested in replacing the entire unit (plus it would not be to code). I thought there might be a way of designing a "non-UL listed" aftermarket upgrade for these units. Any suggestions or recommendations for accomplishing this would be appreciated.
