hey gents (& gals?),
can anyone explain to me the difference between bolt cutters and cable cutters? same tool? if i buy the one, can i use it to cut the other item? also, can cable ("steel rope") be cut with a hacksaw? i'm dealing with both 1/2 in. and 3/16 in. cables which need sectioning.
thx in advance for sharing your knowledge/experience.

I have cut steel wire rope . Put duct tape around it and cut with a fine tooth blade right in the middle or use a cut off wheel.
They just look the same. But the cable cutter is more of a shear type . With a hook to it that dont let the cable get away from you. They come like a bolt cutter and also as a ratchet type that would be for bigger cable.

check Grainger there in ST louis they have them
