My dad was going to put an old wooden straight back chair in a yard sale. I told him that I would like to have that chair and put a new bottom in it. It has a old tattered braided bottom made of some kind of straw material. I would like to replace it myself with some other material. I am not sure about how to do this project. I know it will be simple since I would like to weave the bottom. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this.

is it a cane seat or a rush seat?

rush seats are woven by hand and are not easy to do.

caneing can be purchased and cut to size & inserted/tacked into the seat.
