Hello,
Sorry to ask such a newbie question but I have never had window units before.
What is the recommended method for storing them during the winter?
I would like to store them in my un-heated garage. Is that an issue? I can't think why it would be but I would rather ask the experts then buy new units next summer.
Thanks in advance.

Storing the window units is better than just leaving them set in the window. They must not be very big to go through the trouble. There are no silly questions! Well, maybe there are, but the quest for what's best is never wasted time. I for one have been in the HVAC trade for 25 years and still learning strong. Take care,

Store them in a dry place.
Many garages do not have a vapor barrier installed under the concrete floor, so the floor must be considered as a moisture enry point. A sheet of plastic under your units will help.
Do not completely enclose them with plastic because that will trap moisture and cause problems.
Store them in their operating position, never on the side or "top".
Just check them out for bugs or chewed wires and such before opeartion next year.

One more thing check the fans that they will spin when you get them out to run. lots of bugs do lock up the fan blades on units also when they set a long time
